Sweet summertime
Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 02:57AM June to August, we Canadians frantically cram in a year's worth of outdoor pleasure into a few heated weeks. Because from city to country, the landscape explodes into a sensory feast. Sides of the highway blooms green with forestry. Suburban lawns grow lush before withering away to a wheat gold. And outdoor festivals anchor every weekend with the promise of smoky BBQ, and the palatable heartbeat of live music.
Which is my roundabout and grandiose way of saying: I'm outside right now, soaking up the hot and humid days of summer.
And completing the trifecta of Ontario classics: camping, cottaging and carnival-ing. The venerable (130+ yrs) Canadian National Exhibition kicked off this week in Toronto and I'm told there is a Krispy creme burger hybrid waiting with my name on it when I expedition down next weekend.
Anyways, enjoy some local Ontario snaps. Sometimes I head out with the dogs...

(Afterward comes four weeks of crisp, apple-and-smoke scented fall before we hunker down with a sigh for the remaining 9 months of winter.)
